When someone on the Internet sends email to a non-existent address, the mail gets bounced, or returned to the sender with a message that the address could not be found. Even if the domain name in the address is valid, if no user by that name exists on the server where that domain name points, the mail will bounce, being returned to the sender as undeliverable. With your NT mail server, however, you can receive mail that is sent to an address on a domain associated with your account, even if that address does not exist. This is done by using a catch-all address, which points to a valid destination. By using a catch-all address, any email that cannot find a valid recipient—and would therefore bounce under normal circumstances—gets successfully delivered to the address you choose, without returning an error message to the original sender.
